If you are planning to go to Tallinn on holiday or do a short Tallinn city break you will find lots of useful info on this page and in our other blogs. Below, you can also read about the 3 things that we think all good holidays to Tallinn should include.

You can start by watching this video. Enjoy!

What you can see on your Tallinn holiday

Three things to include on your visit to Tallinn, Estonia:

1. Make sure you visit the Old Town and ideally choose Tallinn accommodation that is located here, as this is where most of the sites are. The Old Town has two distinct parts, one is built on a hill called Toompea – where there are breath taking views, and the other part is the Lower Town, at the base of Toompea where the main town square is situated.

2. All Tallinn holidays should include a visit the town square, as this is the centre of activity and often has a traditional and lively market. It is also the place where many of Tallinn’s festivals and music performances happen. So you can often enjoy some great entertainment whilst you sit in one of the many al fresco restaurants and bars around the town square.

3. See the defensive walls that surround the old town of Tallinn. Particularly interesting parts are the section at Viru Gate where you can see the ‘Fat Margaret” tower. Also the section of the wall as you head to the upper town. Here you can walk along the top of the wall and even stop for a glass of hot wine from the wall top bar!

Holidays to Tallinn - a visit to the town square

3 things to make your Tallinn city break even more enjoyable:

1. A city break to Tallinn is a great way to enjoy a long weekend. Try to book your plane tickets as early as possible for the cheapest fares and staying in a serviced apartment in the old town can give you spacious luxury Tallinn accommodation at the price of a small, cramped hotel room.

2. Tallinn is the European city of culture for 2011 and a full calendar of events is available.

3. Holidays to Tallinn are great in the Winter or the summer, but make sure you take the right clothing! In the winter it can get quite cold – often down to minus 10 to 15 C and the in summer it is certainly hot enough to swim in the sea, so remember your swimming things.

In this Tallinn hotels guide we review what we think are the best accommodation choices and hotels in Tallinn based on what you get for your money.

Summary of hotels / accommodation reviewed (A more detailed description of each is given below this table)

Comparison of Tallinn Hotels and Accommodation

1. Schloessle Hotel EUR 234 25 Sq m 5 minute walk

5. Baltic Hotel Wana Wiru EUR 153 21 Sq m 5 minute walk

1. Schloessle Hotel – (address: Pühavaimu 13-15)

The Schloessle hotel in tallinnIf you want luxurious Tallinn accommodation and price is no issue, then the Schloessle is a great place to stay. It is near to the main square of the old town, which means it is easy to walk to most of the sites. The rooms are a reasonable size for a central hotel and quite comfortable, equipped with all the amenities you’d expect from a luxury hotel. The room has lounge chairs, a writing desk, double bed, internet. You can even use the services of a personal butler who will prepare the bath according to your taste. The hotel itself is in a typical old town building and gives a great atmosphere to your stay.

2. Pikk49 Luxury Apartments – (address: Pikk 49) tel: UK +44 (0)207 834 1442 Tallinn: +372 509 0010

Pikk49 Tallinn accommodationIf you want luxury Tallinn accommodation at an affordable price, then Pikk49 Tallinn apartments are the place to stay. Pikk49 is a beautiful historic old town building consisting of 8 very spacious, high end luxury apartments. What you get for your money is very impressive and the apartments are huge (1 bed apartments are up to 85 sq m !) Apartment facilities include: Fully equipped kitchen, washing machine, wireless internet, cable TV, iron & ironing board, bed linen & towels, under floor heating in bathrooms, toiletries. It is just a 3 minute walk to the main square and the majority of attractions are within easy reach on foot. I our view this is a far better option than any of the Tallinn hotels. Pikk49 Tallinn Accommodation

3. Radisson Blu Hotel – (address: Rävala puiestee 3)

One of the Radisson Tallinn hotelsLocated near Tallinn old town, this is quite a big hotel with 280 rooms and suites. Amenities include high-speed, wireless Internet access, the Madissoni Grill & Bar which specialises in international open grill food, a lobby cocktail bar and the Lounge 24 bar. There is also a fitness centre and a business meeting space, spanning more than 915 square metres and accommodating up to 350 guests. The bedrooms are of a reasonable size and as you would expect for a mid priced central hotel, but certainly nowhere near the size of the Pikk49 Tallinn apartments we reviewed above.

4. Susi Hotel – (address: Peterburi tee 48)

Susi hotel in TallinnThe Susi (3 star) is one of the Tallinn hotels that is located in the quickly developing Lasnamäe district, not far from the airport and bus terminal (2 km). Rooms here are relatively cheap, but to get to any of the attractions, and the old town / harbour is about a 10 minute drive. All the rooms have a toilet, a shower (suites have also a bath and a sauna), direct dial phone, satellite TV, hair dryers, air-conditioning and Wireless high-speed Internet access is available all over the hotel. There is a buffet breakfast, which is included in the room price. The hotel has 6 floors and an elevator. On the ground floor there is a restaurant, bar and lobby bar, a meeting room and banqueting hall.

5. Baltic Hotel Wana Wiru – (address: Viru 11)

One of the Baltic tallinn hotelsThis is located in the Old Town of Tallinn, on the main street that links the medieval city centre with the busy business quarter. Out of all the hotels in Tallinn, this is somewhere in the middle when it comes to quality and price. The hotel has 82 rooms and several different price levels. The Town Hall Square (Raekoja plats), Toompea, churches, handicraft shops and shopping centres, as well as some of the theatres, restaurants and nightclubs are within walking distance. All rooms are furnishing in pastel colours. Floors are carpeted, except in rooms for guests who have allergies. Each room has SAT-TV, direct dial telephone, minibar, free Internet access, central air conditioner and a hairdryer.
